Origins
Danielle Burnside is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores the mysteries of the inseparable relationship between consciousness and nature. Rooted in a deep reverence for life and time, her work seeks to create a bridge toward greater awareness, wholeness, and wonder.
Raised in West Michigan, Burnside began teaching art at age eleven and later earned her BFA from the Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University. She has continued developing her practice and exhibiting throughout the Hawaiian Islands, with her work held in private collections around the world.
Her relationship with the ocean became a profound turning point in both her life and artistic language. Its depth, mystery, and otherworldly nature continue to inform her work. Through painting and other evolving forms of making, she is drawn to the space where the tangible meets the intangible.
Burnside lives and works on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, where she paints full-time. Her evolving practice is leading her toward artist residencies and deeper engagement with different places, cultures, concepts, and geometric synchronicities. Forgiveness, reverence, and interconnectedness remain enduring threads throughout her work.
